International Mother Language Day
International
Mother Language day is approved by UNESCO (United Nations Educational,
Scientific & Culture Organisation) was held on 21st February
1999. This day was celebrate as World Wide Annual observance on 21st
february every year to promote multilingualism , it was approved by UNSECO.
The
focuses on how language hold strategic impotance for people and can advance the
process of educatiom and development.
Bangladesh
had first come up with the idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day
on 21st february 2000. UNESCO approved general conference International Mother
Language Day was celebrated on 21st february, and it as been
observed throughtout the world since then.
What is our mother tongue in India?
According
to the constitution of India stated the offical language of the union is Hindi.
With the official use of english is continue for 15 years from 1947.
In India
there are more languages are spoken by as mother tongue. According to the
census data, there are 19,500 language which are spoken by 10,000 or more
people in India.
The scheduled
languagein India are mentioned as: Assamese, Bengli, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada,
Kashmiri, Malayalam, Konkani, Marathi, Manipuri, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi,
Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Bodo, Santhali, Maithili, and Dogri.
International Mother Language day promotes the existence of multigualism
in societies and aims to preserve traditional knowledge and cultures through
sustaiable methods.
According
to the “UNITED NATIONS”, an estimated
6000 languages are spoken in the world and around 43% of endangered. Only few
hundred languages have been reognised in the educational system.
Each year,
this day is observed through a specific theme and the theme for 2022 is “Using
Technology for multilingual learning: Challenge and Opportunitines.
