LAHIRI
Alokesh Lahiri
popularly known as Bappi Lahiri. He was born on 27 november, 1952 into a Bengali family. In Jalpalguri, West Bengal,
India. His parents were Aparesh Lahiri and Bansari Lahiri, both were Bengali
Singers and Musicians in Classical Music and Shyama Sangeet. He was their only
child. He relatives
include Singer Kishore Kumar, his maternal uncle. Bappi Lahiri began to play
tabla at the age 3. Intially , he was trained by his parents first. After which
he received his first opportunity in a Bengali flim, Daadu (1972) at the age of
19.At a very early age, he had the ambition to become famous, not only
nationally, but internationally. He is
very fond of jewellery and is usually found wearing gold ornaments and dark
glasses. He wears gold on his body of more than 1 crore INR (approx), which
weights around 2kg(approx).
CAREER:
Though he was
known for Disco Songs where he brought orchestration and fusion of Indian Music
with Internationalsounds and Youthful upbeat rhythms. He is popularised the use
of synthesized Disco Music in Indian cienma.
He was
popular in the 1980s and 1990s with filmi sound track such as Wardat, Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal, Sharaabi, Naya Kadam,
Masterji, Karoonga, Dance Dance, Commando, Maqsad, Suraag, Insaaf Main
Karoonga, Saaheb, Gang Leader.
He popularised the use of synthesized Disco Music
in Indian cienama and sang song some of his own compoitions. He had delivered
box office success in Bengal flims like Amar
Sangee, Asha O Bhalobasha, Aamar Tumi, Amar Prem, Mandira, Badnam, Raktelekha
and so on.
Alokesh Lahiri
popularity known as Bappi Lahiri was an Indian Singer, Composer, Politican and
Record Producer.
He worked with the singing legends of the Hindi
Music Industry:
He sang
duets with’ Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar’. He also worked with renowned
singers ‘Late Lata Mangeshkar, and Asha Bhosle’. A duet was composed by him
with’ Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar’s “Nothing is Impossible”. Kishore Kumar
and Asha Bhosle duet “Jalta Hai Jiya Mera” was also composed by him. Late
Mangeshkar solos like “Abhi Abhi Thi Dushmani and Aao Tumhe Chand” become
popular and gave him recongnition at National Level from the songs of the flim
Chalte Chalte (1976).
He composed
music for gazals also like “Kisi Nazar Ko Tera Intezaar Aaj Bhi Hai” and “
Aawaz Di Hi” for the 1985 flim Aitbaar. For several other films, he composed
melodious songs which were sung by Kishore Kumar.

After conquering
the world of Big - Screen Hindi Films, he appeared on popular television show”
Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’ll Champs’ in 2006 on Zee Ttv as co-judge with singers Alka
Yagnik and Abhijeet. He was also one of the celebrated judges for ZeeTV’s ‘Sa
Re Ga Ma Pa challenge 2007’. He also judged the ‘K for Kishore’ reality show
for Sony Entertainment television. All these shows gained him a tremendous
amount of popularity.
Bappi Lahiri : Political Carrer
On 31st
January 2014, he joind the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to contest the 2014 Lok
Sabha Election. In 2014, he was made a BJP candidate from Serampur (Lok Sabha
Constituency) but he lost to Kalyan Banerjee of all India Trinamool Congress’.
