      International women’s day will be celebrated across the world on Tuesday, march 8th, to mark the social, economic, cultural & political achievements of women.

           For the first time, international women’s day was celebrated in 1911. It is that time when the west witnessed great turbulence in the Industrialized world paving way to population growth & the rise of various ideologies.

       International women’s day is celebrated every year on march 8th to mark & celebrate the social, economic, cultural &political achievements of woman & raise awareness about women’s equality accelerate gender parity.

    The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

AIMS FOR CELEBRATING WOMEN’S DAY

·       Raise awareness about women’s equality.

·       Lobby for accelerated gender parity.

·       Also tries to raise funds for female focused charities.

·       The day also highlights how much more is needed to be done to bring about gender parity in the world.

WHAT COLOURS SYMBOLISE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY?

         PURPLE, GREEN AND WHITE are the colors of international women’s day.

PURPLE: signifies justice and dignity.

GREEN: symbolizes hope.

WHITE: represents purity.

 The colors originated from the women’s social and political union in the UK in 1908     

HISORY OF WOMEN’S DAY

          It was not formalized until a warm time strike in 1917, when Russian women demanded “bread and peace”, four days in to the strike was forced to abdicate & the provisional government

granted women the right to vote the strike began on 8th march & this became the date that international women’s day is celebrated.

The united nations started celebrating women’s day in 1975 & in 1977 the UN general assembly proclaimed march 8th as international women’s day for women’s rights & world peace.

WHO CAN SUPPORT INTERNATINAL WOMEN’S DAY?

       International women’s day is not country, group, nor organization specific. No one government, NGO, charity, corporation, academic institution, women’s network, or media hub is solely responsible for international women’s day.

      The day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

      GLORIA STEINUM, world- renowned feminist, journalist and activist once “the story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist, nor to anyone organization, but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”

        So make international women’s day your day and do what you can to truly make a positive difference for women.

WHAT’S THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2022 THEME?

        The companion theme for international women’s day 2022 is #BREAK THE BIAS.

        Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough. Action is needed to level the playing field.
